The haunting sounds of the Hammond Novachord have always intrigued us here at HS Towers. Made from over a hundred valves, thousands of capacitors and miles of hand sewn wiring looms and built in 1939, it was several decades ahead of its time ... the world's first polyphonic synthesiser housed in a beautiful, cherrywood cabinet...

And it had a sound all its own.

Its 'Is it an organ or not ... so what is it?" sounds and its creepy tones have graced many an old movie to great effect and indeed, our own Novachord library has been used in many productions including the award winning 'Alan Wake' game scored by Petri Alanko so we thought it might be nice if we did a 'lite' version so that others can enjoy this unique sound. So with the kind permission of the Novachord's owner, Dan Wilson, here it is...

This year's seasonal offering is an homage to the fabulous 80s DCO polysynth - 'you know' the one I refer to and it's fairly obvious from the GUI!!!

Firstly, it has a DETUNE control so that the waveforms can be detuned for a thicker sound that can rival the more serious two oscillator polysynths. It also has a multiwave LFO (compared with the original's triangle wave only), a 12/24dB/OCtave switch on the filter and perhaps, most importantly, has two ADSR envelopes, a vast improvement over the original's one envelope.

Not just that but we've sampled two banks of waveforms - one with the original's gorgeously crusty, analogue bucket brigade chorus in all its rich, stereo and swirly wondrousness but also the raw waveforms so that you have the best of both worlds. The chorused bank allows some truly massive sounds to be created, especially with the detune control.

It also comes with 40 presets to get you started which range from supremely lush strings and pads to chunky basses, organs and spikey arpeggios.

But it doesn't stop there!

All this passes to a comprehensive FX section that pretty much speaks for itself...

Fairly self-explanatory ... flanger > phase shifter > rotary cab simulator > echo > convolution reverb with spring, plate and hall impulses.

But best of all perhaps is that over the seasonal period, this is available for a mere 2 until the twelfth day of Christmas when the staff here at HS Towers in rural Wales take down the festive decorations and all the mince pies are eaten. At which point, a zero will be added to the price.

So get your skates on - not to have a jolly day out on your local frozen lake, robins a-twittering in their maginficent red waistcoats, but to snap up up this Christmas bargain!

The Eminent Solina P275 Series 9 with a price tag of aprox $2500 from 1985 was made in Holland and uses the same string synth section as the legendary 310 model used by Jean Michel Jarre. The P275 is completely analog and has a unique sounding drum machine built in, the Syncopator 355.

Precisionsound teamed up with Skinny Hastrup and started a series of sample libraries titled “The Skinny Organ Collection”.

The Eminent Solina P275 Series 9 with a price tag of aprox $2500 from 1985 was made in Holland and uses the same string synth section as the legendary 310 model used by Jean Michel Jarre. The P275 is completely analog and has a unique sounding drum machine built in, the Syncopator 355.

We think these instruments are so underrated when it comes to the sound. For modern DAW based musicians it would be difficult or impossible to incorporate them in their music production due to space weight and the lack of MIDI or CV so we have the goal to make them available inside your MAC or PC.

The 1901 Upright Studio Piano is the most comprehensive deep-sampled Upright ever created. Recorded and processed at 24-Bit / 96Khz at our famous British Studio through a large custom NEVE desk. The 1901 Upright Studio Piano contains both standard and prepared articulations.

All standard sustain samples were recorded with both pedal up, pedal down and half pedal positions. In addition we also added staccatissimo (w/ round robin) for fast playing styles and our gorgeous Una Corta (Soft Pedal) articulation, which has to be the warmest- and softest piano articulation ever recorded.

The 1901 Upright Studio Piano also contains a large selection of prepared articulation, which is included in the library too. The upright piano techniques includes plucking the strings with various instruments, to muted articulations & unique playing styles. In addition the library gives you full control over the dynamic response as well as mechanics and tonal qualities, so you can dial in the perfect sound for your workflow.

We included full control over resonance, room tone, non tonal key control & unique release triggers for hammer action, string damping, and release triggers for our more ambient microphones.

The library includes 6 different type of microphones, including Neumann 87’s, Coles, Neve SE Ribbon’s, AKG 414’s, Neumann KM 184’s and a mixed microphone position, which was made by combining all 24 microphones used in the sessions. We also recorded all samples through two world-class reverbs (Bricasti and TCElectronics 6000), so you have the best microphones and reverbs right at your finger tips.

Lastly we recorded everything through a Studer A820 Tape-Deck (and yes – we use real tape – not just emulations), so you can either choose to play the samples in their digital form or hear them through the Studer A820, which provides a very unique feeling and authentic vintage feel to the samples.

The 1901 Upright Studio Piano is best described as an incredible warm, cinematic and emotive experience.

Containing well over 4GB of one shots, loops, MIDI files, presets and packed with genuine inspiration, this sample pack is a must have for any tech, uplifting and classic tech trance producer.

The contents of this pack were inspired by legendary labels such as BXR , Vandit, Nukleuz, Perfecto and Reset Recordings and influenced by classic tech-trance artists such as Randy Katana, Mario Piu, Mauro Picotto , Kai Tracid, Joy Kitikonti, Tiesto and many others.

Locksmith is all about the Keys & Leads, good any time you need some interesting keys or a one of a kind lead sound. It also features lots of patches that utilize the Zebra ‘duophonic’ mode.

I threatened it, and I have done it, a 6th Zebra presets collection.

This time the focus is on Keys, and Leads, as the name might have given away. Quite a few of the leads use the Zebra duophonic mode for some cool nu skool legato type effects on sounds. And speaking of fx on sound, I made it a priority to dial back the modwheel assignments. Trust me when I say these are my most mellow, and probably useful patches ever.
